Frontier's story begins in 1917, when its post office was established. The community grew steadily enough that it was incorporated as a village on 10 July 1930.
Today Frontier sits on Highway 18 in the Rural Municipality of Frontier No. 19, and the Frontier Airport lies a short distance south of the village. Frontier School teaches students from kindergarten through grade 12 as part of the Chinook School Division, and the village has its own nine-hole golf course, the Frontier & District Golf Course.
Frontier has also produced some well-known names, including NHL players Rhett Warrener and Braydon Coburn, and David L. Anderson, a former Conservative Member of Parliament.
